The Road to Joy

Outfit details: Shopjbolin.com (old) Photographer: @photos.bybe

I’d like to keep this short and sweet with six steps to maintaining my “glow” on this #roadtojoy.

Whole Foods and Healthy Nutrition: Find your unique balance and eat processed foods in moderation. Food is what fuels our cells, so only consume what your body needs. It’s a precious resource, don’t let it go to waste.

Community and Connection:  Reaching out to family, clients, chefs, mentors, and friends is an intentional practice of building community. Learn from the lesson and give gratitude to every friendship that taught you how to evolve.

Rest and Self- love (awareness): Try checking in with yourself throughout the day, acknowledging the highs and the lows, the inconveniences, and the Wins. Take a beat to find the peace within… that’s my key to “the glow”. 💫

Wellness is the key: Wellness begins with mindfulness. Before we wake up, notice your presence, breath and feel your way through the process of starting your day, slowly.

Hydration and Sleep: Water is what we’re made of. Warm warmer flushes out the toxins and helps your gut flow. Let water fuel your mind hydrate your skin and get plenty of sleep to recover.

Stretching and Flexibility: I was a gymnast and ice skater as a child. Back bends and balance beams were my favorite, but as we grow older it’s important to keep ourselves limber and mobile to prevent injury. Move, often and daily!

Carpe Diem,

Ali

Writers Block

“Write the vision and make it plain, that he may run who readeth it”. Habakkuk 2:2

I’ve learned a few things as a writer.

1. Write often, more like daily

2. Read- it improves language and memory

3. Research and be open to learning

4. Know your audience and tailor your content

5. Put it out there! Perfectionism is wack!

I believe in the power of manifestation. I’ve looked back at my journals over the years, and it’s evident that I prayed for days like this. God gave me beauty for ashes. Burning away what no longer serves me so that I can fly freely in purpose.

What are you writing today?

Just a thought:

It’s amazing where your gifts will take you if you’re open to following curiosity. 💫

Carpe Diem,

Ali

The Colorful Life with Ali"

“The Colorful Life with Ali” is a fun and engaging educational show about food for patients and families at LeBonhuer Children’s Hospital. This unique segment is all about bringing food science and nutrition to the table, and we did just that! Families engaged in a hands-on activity and open discussion about the preservation of food and balanced our food budget.

I met two young people excited about food science and balanced nutrition. We walked them through the process of seed germination and photosynthesis to grow their plants. The little scientists also created custom fruit salads using fresh ingredients and colorful flavors. (My first guests made pickles!)

Thank you, @ryanseacrest and @ryantfoundation, for the opportunity to share my passion for food, science, and art in a “colorful way”! Colorful living is embedded in the essence of my being, and I look forward to sharing more with the patients, staff, and families at LeBonhuer Children’s Hospital.

Just a thought:

When I left the food industry, I had no idea where life would take me. This is why I love being a food scientist! Every day is truly different, and I’m changing the world @umamifcc_fs4kids

Welcome to the Colorful Life! 🌈 👩🏾‍🔬🧬

Carpe Diem,

Ali

Imagine walking down a sandy pathway and stepping into your own private beach 🏖️.

Every year for the last ten years, we’ve ventured to the waters for relaxation. Any Scorpio knows that’s our element for healing. This is your reminder to enter into your space of peace and nurture your happiness ♏️

Thank you @photos.bybe for making this ritual special for us to reignite our flames.

Quarantined: Damn, Corona!

Covid 19 came in and halted everything! The funny thing about black folks is, we know how to make light of every situation. The jokes are endless even in a scary and somewhat ominous situation. The stories change daily, but most of us are on pause; working from home or ordering take out, homeschooling the kiddos and trying to make the most of the situation. Food businesses are suffering, not sure how they’ll get by day to day. It’s a shame, many have ransacked the grocery stores with lines wrapped totally around the aisles. Toilet paper is at a 2 pack minimum yet one thing remains…there’s plenty of fruits and veggies. What in the world folks?! As for us, I’m not much for playing by the rules, so me and my hunny have been out and about a few hours a day, maintaining our distance. Yet, It’s tough for the extroverts inside of us, we live for socializing and just being outdoors. Here we were watching this pandemic coming, yet acting like it wasn’t going to affect us. Oh well, hopefully it’ll all be over soon. Now get back to that virtual learning, working, yoga and watching those bad ass kids!

The September cover is out and I’m front and center on the Memphis H&F September Issue! I’ve always had a love for fitness and challenging myself to learn new things, so getting back to skating was no different. I started skating again because it brought me joy (in the midst of the pandemic), now I’m so glad I’ve been able to create joyful moments for others, by simply doing what I love.

When I was little, I was the only black girl in my ice skating class…now look at me?! On the Cover with dark skin, an Afro and a big pretty smile! Look how far we’ve come. #blackgirlmagic
